Edith Wharton Our lives will forever be enriched because of the dachsies that touched our hearts in rescue, but we know the real healing does not begin until they leave our care. We encourage, we celebrate, we do everything we can to give them the skills they need to put their best paw forward as they wait for their forever families to find them . . . and then the time comes to say goodbye. Often we shed tears. We remember when they came in, how far they’ve come, the hiccups along the way – we laugh, we cry – and then we always say a little prayer as we send them on their way. We hope they find the confidence to keep that best paw forward, because we know, when they do, they will truly flourish. It is then, they will heal; it is then, they will find peace.  In October 2016, at the Halloween adoption day, we brought Sallie home to Rochester, MN. We lost our Heidi in June and our long-haired doxie Reba was lonely. It was the first time she had been at a meet and greet in awhile: it was our lucky day. Even though she was a senior, we fell in love with her, and she got along great with Reba. Sallie Sioux (as we call her) makes us laugh. Her run is so cute. Typical Dachshund - on walks, she smells more than walks. She loves camping with us, Reba and our adopted cat, Clawdia. At the camper, her favorite place is in front of the fireplace, and likes the golf cart rides into the woods. She can sniff around and then get a ride back to the camper. Among the four doggie beds in the house, her favorite is next to our bed. Her vision and hearing is not the best, but that endears her to us even more. Thank you for allowing us to be Sallie's humans. She has touched our hearts and brings joy to our lives. Mike and Lori  Hi! Well it has been GREAT with Sasha and Penni. On the way home, Sasha was on Barb's lap most of the way home and Penni was on Joi's lap or right next to her. They have bonded very fast. Three of my other older girls had called or text us on the way home wanting to see the girls. Jenni our oldest and her 2 boys were the first to meet them and Sasha was very sociable with them, and then Juli came over when we got home and again Sasha was great and then on to my other daughter's house Jazi for a visit and Sasha was very sociable there to. She loves to be pet. When we first got to your home and Sasha came right to me and let me pet her, I new Sasha was going home with us. Sometime I'll get a picture to you of me in my chair with Gus on one side and Sasha on the other and Penni laying on my chest. Now on to Penni. as you can see we are spelling her name a little different and here is why. These are my daughters names, Jenni, Jaci, Juli, Jazi, and Joi. All ending in i so Penni had to keep the tradition going. Penni has taken to Joi and followers her around like Gus follows me around. Penni on Monday came to me in my office and just looked up at me and then gave out a little woof so I had to pick her up and hold her, she is so cute that way. Her little woof is how she lets us know she wants to be held. We were surprised as to how fast Sasha moved, she got playful with Gus and was running around the house, that did my heart good to see that. And then Penni and Gus were nose to nose (kissing) that's the best way to describe it. All three get along great. Here are some pictures of the girls and Gus on the couch on there pillow with there blankets. One big happy famliy ! ! ! We want to thank you for letting us adopt Sasha and Penni in to our family. I was (Mike) adopted at 18 months old myself so I know it's a great feeling to find that forever home!
 Hi Judy (and Sarah), Here's the update I promised. :) Things are going well with the girls. We are so excited to come home now. It's awesome. Sylvie is snuggling both Brian and I whenever we are on the couch. She still tucks her tail while she's at the park, and is nervous, but she jumps up on both of us and wags her tail. She's getting better at it each day. She is a rock star at potty training. Getting her to eat is always an adventure. How do you feed the dogs? All at once? Do you use plastic bowls? She will go to the bowl, then go to her safe place. Or check out Lily, who is of course chomping away. I have to coax Sylvie to the bowl. She has only given up 2 meals. Both dinner. She licks Lily incessantly sometimes. I think that is a nervous behavior, but I'm not sure. Lily cracks us up with her funny attitude. She's like a crusty old lady. When she sneezes, it sounds like a flock of birds. So funny! She eats fine, but we're still working on the potty thing. She's had a pee accident each day. But we're working it out. She goes fine in the morning, but getting her to pee after work is a struggle. Today, Brian took them both out, but Lily wouldn't pee. So he brought Sylvie back upstairs, put her in the crate, then took Lily out again. Then she finally peed. Silly girl. The wood chips idea was a good one. We'll just keep her on them until she goes. When we take her on walkies, she does a great job of just wandering the field, and following our feet. Nothing holds her back. Not even the harness. Having Sarah teach us to say "Watch out!" was a great thing to know. Sylvie follows her like a hawk, but sometimes will walk away from her for a bit, but then she runs back to Lily. It is super gross that they eat poop. Do you think they'll ever "outgrow" that? We keep a very close eye on them, but sometimes they get to one from someone else's dog that an owner didn't pick up. So gross! Anyhow, we are super in love with these girls. You do a great job of training them. All of your advice has been terrific, and we're so grateful to be able to call/email you with questions. Please let us know if we can do anything to help you guys. Until then, I can send updates on their progress, if you're interested. We love talking doxie. :) I've attached three pictures. Hi to all in your family. ~Trish and Brian  Hello, Sorry that it took me so long to reply, we have been busy with alot of different stuff. Sundance has been doing great. At first we were having issues with loose stools and ended up taking him to our vet and finding out that there were a couple of bugs growing so we are now on our second course of meds and it appears to be clearing up. Otherwise he has been a wonderful new addition, sundance like to curl up on or next to anyone who will let him, loves running around playing with Maggie, and just loves to have someone around. He is a very good contrast to maggie who always barks at every little thing, he just sits and doesnt get all work up, very laid back. We are very happy that we could give sundance his forever home and he seems to like it here too. Cheryl and Zach Delvaux  Stan and Elmo (known as just Mo now) are doing great. When they aren't playfully wrestling with each other, Stan is sniffing around the house exploring, when not on my lap and Mo is chewing on his multiple toys around the house. We had an interesting first couple weeks with Stan and Mo, because of the new situation. They barked for 5 minutes at a time whenever someone new came into the house. However, now they only bark for a few seconds when someone new comes into the house. As far as house training, we are about 80% there with only a couple accidents a week (usually by the back door). By about 8 o'clock every night, both of them have found their way onto my lap on the couch, usually laying on top of each other. It is obvious Stan and Mo have become best friends in the past 4 months and their relationship will only grow with time. Both of them have really formed their own personalities while in Fergus Falls and we have recently found out that Stan has a Huskie Heart in him. He tries to run through snow 2 feet deep, seeming to do it for fun. Mo doesn't like the snow as much, but doesn't mind chasing Stan if Stan makes the trail first. These two have been a great addition to our family and they are fitting in with my parents two dachunds very well when I bring them over for a playdate!
