Sometimes a dachsie comes into this world with a birth defect, and just like any birth defect, it can be a fluke and a special dachsie like Kringle comes into our rescue. 

Sometimes though, when one plays the odds, it turns out the birth defect is really congenital, and we step up to save an entire family.

Mom is a beautiful young dachsie, now spayed and looking for a home of her own.  Her name is Shasta Sue.  Kringle, her oldest son, has grown into a dapper young dachshund also available for adoption. Kringle is very affectionate and continues to build his confidence and skills now that he is neutered and kenneling with the other dachshunds at his foster mom’s house.

However Kringle’s younger siblings, Alfalfa, Buckwheat and Darla, remain sponsorship only.  Just as with Kringle, a little more time and energy is involved to help them reach all those first year milestones.  Each dachsie is different, of course, but typically dachshunds born with the congenital form of hydroencephalus have a good prognosis, with only occasional medical treatment needed to keep their symptoms in check.  We would love that to be true of these little ones, and we would appreciate your prayers and support as we help them to reach each new milestone on their road to becoming “available for adoption”.

Some, like Kringle and his family, come into rescue with unique medical needs up front; some have ongoing medical needs; but all will have been spayed, neutered, vaccinated and received routine dental care while waiting for their forever family to find them.

Whether they are here for one week, one year, or sadly, for some of our dachsies, their forever families never find them, and they live out their days as a forever foster with Dakota Dachshund Rescue, it does not matter. We will do all we can to help them put their best paw forward, but we have a lot of paws in need, and your decision to sponsor will further enrich their lives.
