Edith Wharton Our lives will forever be enriched because of the dachsies that touched our hearts in rescue, but we know the real healing does not begin until they leave our care. We encourage, we celebrate, we do everything we can to give them the skills they need to put their best paw forward as they wait for their forever families to find them . . . and then the time comes to say goodbye. Often we shed tears. We remember when they came in, how far they’ve come, the hiccups along the way – we laugh, we cry – and then we always say a little prayer as we send them on their way. We hope they find the confidence to keep that best paw forward, because we know, when they do, they will truly flourish. It is then, they will heal; it is then, they will find peace. Dudley I forgot to mention when I sent this photo the first time, that the girls were laughing cuz Chase stuck his nose in the snow which stuck to him! They thought that was pretty funny. He still has the stuffed dog toy and loves it, as well as the squeaky squishy odd shaped thing that he rolls with his nose...it's yellow and pink.
Milo Milo is doing great. He has shown a lot of improvement. He loves laying on the couch and rolling around outside. He has a lot of energy and is very curious, he's constantly wandering around. He still is a little hesitant about being picked up, but once he gets used to it he snuggles up right next to you. He is a very sweet and loving little boy who is conquering his fears one day at a time. Thanks for allowing this bundle of joy to be in our lives. Chelsea Ross & Milo
Damien Hi, My name is Damien aka " Mr D." I was adopted on Sept 19,2009. My forever home is in Lakeland MN with my 3 brothers and my sister Sassy, all doxies. I have a big fenced yard to run in and chase all the squirrels and rabbits. I love sleeping in the big bed with mom and dad, sure beats a wire cage. Mom says I am adjusting really well. I am not too sure about the snow we got recently…kinda cold on the paws..but my brother Rudy says it can be lots of fun. My family and I pray that all my brothers and sisters at all the foster homes find their forever home soon. A special kiss and wish to Rambo my litter brother. Hope you find your forever home soon. Bingo I first heard about Dakota Dachshund Rescue when my grandpa was successfully matched with a dachshund named Scooter. DDR did an awesome job matching those two- Scooter has a tendency to have separation anxiety and my grandpa has a tendency to want to take his dog everywhere with him! My first dog, Hunter, I purchased as a puppy. I love him dearly, but having my home puppy-proof and working on his potty training were quite the challenge for me as I work full-time. I used to have a roommate, who also had a doxie, and Hunter and him were inseparable. When I purchased my new home (and no longer had my roommate around nor his dog) I knew I needed to get me and my Hunter a new family member and friend. I felt that it would be best for me, my new dog, and my new home if I had a dog that was further along in house-training than most puppies are. I also wanted to make sure that I adopted a dog that loves to play as Hunter loves to play! I filled out the adoption application without choosing a particular dog, as I felt DDR's feedback would help me adopt the right dog as they had for my grandpa. They provided feedback on who they felt would be best with what I was looking for. They helped me in selecting Bingo, who happens to be the perfect match for me and Hunter! Bingo was a little shy for the first couple days, but DDR provided many helpful tips on how to brighten Bingo's day and make him feel at home. I was informed of his favorite treats,meals,and his absolute favorite activity, playing fetch with a squeaky ball! Now Bingo is smiling much of the time and is getting lots of time playing fetch in the backyard with Hunter and me. Each day, he comes out of his shell a little more! Bingo and Hunter are teaching eachother a few tricks as well. Bingo has the cutest way of begging for treats and attention by sitting on his hind legs with his front paws at his chest and his head tilted. Just today, I looked over and saw both Bingo and Hunter begging Bingo-style at my feet! Hunter is a big fan of play wrestling and initially, Bingo didn't want to wrestle with him. The past couple days, I've seen both of them running throgh the house play wrestling with their tails wagging! Bingo has been a great joy to have around. It's only been a couple weeks and Hunter and I have already bonded to Bingo! I and am so grateful to Dakota Dachshund Rescue for helping me find my new family member!
Shaggy Well, it happened again!! We failed "Fostering 101" or, more to the point, I failed Fostering 101! Shaggy is now part of the "Donham-Oleson Retirement Home for Senior, Elderly and Geriatric Dachshunds". And, I will admit, I am absolutely "stupid" about this little senior gent! I knew after helping my Bruno to the Bridge earlier this year, that I had an empty place in my Heart. Shaggy filled this space and has become my constant companion...on the couch, curled up next to me in bed or riding along on errands. He nearly claws the door down when he hears the car keys go jingle jingle! As I write this, he is in his usual place...curled up next to me on my computer chair.
