Learn more about the Dachshund.
Doug was a stray that started out at the Humane Society and transferred to Second Chance because he was found wandering in city limits. Doug is deaf so he needs a fenced yard. He was filled with infection when we got him and he had a huge growth on the back of his right leg. Dr Heidi treated him with antibiotics for a week before she would attempt surgery, we were so happy that he did great with his surgeries, only had 5 teeth pulled and now is very excited when it's time to eat and a nice cozy bed to sleep in. Doug is our Christmas angel, not sure where his owner is but he'd love a nice warm home of his own and a new owner to snuggle with. NOTE: Our Senior Dachsie Advocate, Bob Donham, can help you with any questions about adopting a Senior Wiener dog. According to Bob, Senior Dachsies ROCK! 4/19/2010 Note by Bob Donham. Recently, Doug spent the night at our "Senior Dachsie Retirement Home" and he was the "Perfect Guest".Napped on my chest as I watched TV. When he woke up, he quietly let me know he "needed something". Carried him into the kitchen to the water dish; when he was done, I carried him to backyard and in a few minutes, he did his "Thing". Back inside, napped in his bed for a while! A little later, I felt a gentle paw my foot as I sat my computer in the office. Brought him up beside in my chair where he snuggled down for another nap! Next morning, stop at water dish then outside to take care of business and check out the backyard; back inside for breakfast and then off with me to run 2 quick errands. Started out in his bed in front passenger seat but ventured over into my lap so he could look out the window. At first stop, left him in his bed, windows cracked, doors locked. Returned 5 minutes later to him peering out the the driver's side window watching for me! And so it went! As I turned into the driveway, he reached up and gave me a little "Dachsie Kiss"! What a Special Senior Gent! Doug is still our "Christmas Angel"!
Doug weighs 9 lbs and is approx 13 years old. His adoption fee is $150. More about DougGood with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids Other Pictures of Doug (click to see larger version):
